Stories

We measure our success in actual lives changed. These stories are a testament to the difference that communities can make when we come together to create lasting change.

Homeowner Spotlight

Home in Chesterton

We helped this family with new siding and to remove a shed from their property.

Community Project Spotlight

Chesterton Art Center

The Chesterton Art Center has always been a favorite among our community projects. We have helped with everything from painting to building new floor structures for attic storage.

Volunteer Spotlight

Jim Thorstad

Jim, a dedicated family-man and Marine, was a part of our inaugural event in 1997 and has yet to miss a Rebuilding Day! He’s been sharing his time and talents with others in need for decades with RTD, Knights of Columbus, The Duneland YMCA (20+ years), The American Legion and many others. Though he’s a financial advisor by trade with Stiffel Nicholas, he’s a true Renaissance Man: a talented musician, mechanic and handyman. In 2004 Jim was asked to serve as our Construction Coordinator giving guidance to our House Captains and after a few years in that role, he opted to return to serving again as a House Captain. Jim explained “I loved the idea of this charity since the beginning. I’ve found virtually every homeowner we’ve served to be so appreciative and respectful.” RTD thanks you for your continued, significant commitment!
